Awe Dropping: What I’m Excited For

Apple is holding its yearly iPhone event tomorrow and rumors have been flying all year about what will be announced. Here’s how I feel about everything, using Mac Rumors list as a guide.

Excited

  • Scrolling the Apple Website: My absolute most favorite thing to do after an Apple event is to scroll through all of their marketing materials, regardless of whether I plan to buy any of it. I love the images, the layouts, the tech specs, and the comparisons. I like finding the little details that weren’t covered during the announcements and even reading the press releases.
  • iPhone 17 Pro: This is my jam. It will have a new camera area that takes the entire width of the device, which will keep it from rocking when it’s on its back. I’m most excited for the rumored “orange” (or “copper”) color. I’ll also take any performance, memory, and camera improvements. I’m on the upgrade program, so this is the one I’ll get.
  • Apple Watch Series 11: I have a Series 8 and it’s beginning to show its age. My battery barely lasts a full day when I do a morning and evening workout and I’d really like the double tap from the Series 9. The bigger and brighter screen in a thinner case from the Series 10 wouldn’t hurt either.

Interested

  • iPhone Air: This is a new iPhone model that’s rumored to be about 15% thinner than the current iPhones and previews what Apple will do when it releases a foldable iPhone rumored for next year. I think it will be interesting to see, but I don’t need a thinner phone, and I don’t want the compromised camera and battery this model will bring.
  • iPhone 17: Not a phone I plan to purchase, but I’m always keeping an eye on them to see what trickles down from the Pro. There’s a rumor that they’ll get the Pro Motion display. If that’s the case and the specs are similar to my 16 Pro, I might start to consider a “regular” iPhone. They come in much better colors than the Pros anyway.
  • Apple Watch Ultra 3: After a weird finish-only update last year, the Ultra is finally getting a proper update. Rumors are all over the place about new health sensors, perhaps blood pressure, but it’s unclear if it will include any. I like the way the Ultra looks, but I think it’s too big for me.
  • Apple Watch SE: The SE may get a bump to the design of the Series 7 with the bigger screen. If I were to buy watches for the boys brand new, this would be the one.
  • AirPods Pro 3: Rumors indicate typical improvements in sound quality and noise cancellation, but also rumor in-ear heartbeat tracking. I still love my AirPods Pro 2 so I don’t think I’d immediately buy these, but I’m interested in what they will have.
  • AirTag 2: Better wireless range and connectivity with a louder speaker. I use these and might get a few

Don’t Care

  • TechWoven cases: These are Apple’s replacement for the FineWoven cases introduced two years ago to replace leather as the luxury tier of its case lineup. This case wore and stained so badly that Apple didn’t even offer it last year. I owned one and it got dirty quick. TechWoven is supposed to be similar but more durable. I have no interest in these as I buy Suti PhoneBacks.
  • Apple TV 4K: There are rumors that the hardware will see an update, but there isn’t anything on the hardware side lacking from mine.
  • HomePod mini 2: Siri is just so bad that I don’t want her in a speaker. Alexa is fine and it can play music through my Apple Music library anyway.
  • M5 Vision Pro: Apple’s “experimental” virtual reality headset is rumored for an update. It costs as much as a mid-tier MacBook Pro, which keeps it far outside my price range.
