What I Watched: Foundation

I started using the elliptical 5 mornings a week as a way to shave off some extra calories and allow myself a little more flexibility in my diet. I “ellipticate” for about 25 minutes and needed something to watch. I decided that a series would be better than trying to string together a bunch of YouTube videos, and Foundation had been on my list since it came out in 2021.

Foundation is based on Issac Asimov’s books about a mathematician who predicts the end of society and the group that tries to minimize the impact. It’s a space opera with high production values and a large cast of characters that change every season due to hundred year time jumps. I held off on watching it due to the first season’s mixed reviews, but the second and third seasons have been well received.

The third season just ended and the show has been renewed for a fourth. I’m a few episodes into season 3 and I like it a lot. I even enjoyed the first season and didn’t have issues with its pacing like critics did. Overall the series has a good mix of world building and action, characters you care about, and high production values. The time jumps keep it fresh while allowing some characters to stick around through the seasons.

Foundation is available on Apple TV+.

Verdict: Watch it.
