I draft a lot of blog posts, but I don’t finish them all. Sometimes I lose interest in the subject, other times I incorporate content into other posts. I keep them around “just in case”, sometimes for years. Occasionally I dig through the list and delete the drafts that are completely irrelevant, barely started, or mostly incorporated into other posts.
Then I’m left with what’s left. Sometimes those get rewritten as new posts. Other times they don’t – maybe because too much time has passed and they aren’t relevant, maybe because I just don’t have the energy to finish them. But some of those still have valuable thoughts, even if they aren’t finished.
These are what make up my “clean out” posts. I did a big clean out way back in 2013 and have published some smaller ones since. The holidays are a great time for this as I have more spare time. I’ll brush them off, do some minimal editing, maybe add a note or two, and then publish. They are often incomplete or rough; consider them the crumbs and broken pieces left over from a batch of good articles.
Expect to see old, possibly irrelevant, and partially finished articles that I just can’t bring myself to delete this holiday season.
