One of the consequences of Sally getting a new Mac is that her old Mac is now available. While it may be six years old, it’s still newer and faster than the PowerBook G4 that I’ve been using as a web server. It has about 3x the processing power, twice the memory, more storage, and the ability to run a newer OS. All things considered, it makes a much better web server than my current one and it doesn’t cost any money.
I spent today setting it up and just switched over. So far, I’m liking it. One of the biggest improvements besides the speed is that I can use Time Machine to back it up. On my G4 I had to use cron and rsync which never worked reliably. I know that Time Machine works, so I’ll always have an up-to-date backup. Here’s to my new web server! Hopefully it’s a little faster for everybody. Thanks Sally!!!
I wanted to write a comment about your Google Play experience but the article has disappeared!
