Despite what he may tell you, Adam has never seen any movies from the Alien series. What he did see however was the poster art for Alien Covenant scroll by on the Apple TV for maybe 20 seconds or so. Once he saw it he wanted to know exactly what that thing was. I told him it was an Alien and asked a series of questions including:
- Does it sneak up around corners?
- How tall is it?
- What does it use its tail for?
- Does it eat people?
- Does it hide in the dark?
The answers to those questions (which I didn’t really know since I’ve never seen the movies either) gave Adam enough info to craft a narrative around it. Soon we had a mom alien that ate people, had babies, and was trying to get somewhere. He wanted to draw it and needed a picture to look at. We jumped on the internet and Adam provided guidance such as “I need to see its whole body”, “It has tentacles?!”, and “No, I want to see the whole thing!”.
Adam drew this Alien from a single photo I grabbed of the internet. It took him about 20 minutes to draw. He cut it out and gave it to me as a gift so I laminated it to keep it intact. I’m so proud of my little boy and his imagination!
