Full-size images from my D2Xs review.
White balance is deliberately wrong because the correct balance reveals one of the petals blown out green.
Fine detail when paired with a sharp lens like my 90mm macro
Underexposing to retain highlights and editing RAW saves high-contrast scenes
This looks phenomenal with few modifications
This bird looks great. Cropped and brightened shadows.
Texture is captured well but those highlights in the background are blown
Heavily cropped seagull
Stabilized lenses work – hand held at ¼ sec
I pulled nice color and detail out of this RAW file
White balance adjusted, but otherwise unedited
Without a lot of shadows, ISO 1600 is usable
My 50mm struggled. It’s always sharp on my D750
My D750 at 12,800 is comparable to the D2Xs at 1600
ISO 1600 noise is OK except for banding
Not much highlight recovery, but some shadows
RAW allows for a fair amount of editing
The D2Xs JPEG (left) is dull and soft compared to RAW (right)
