Web Server Heart Transplant

As you may have heard, my Mac mini died yesterday. Our power had been disconnected during the day in order for PSNH to install a new telephone pole and I think it died when the power kicked back on (even though it was plugged into a surge protector). I guess it was just time for it to go.

In addition to losing our family file share and my SVN repository, I also lost this website. After pricing out another Mac mini and then deciding to use Sally’s iMac, I decided to do something a bit different. I decided to dig up the 12″ PowerBook that was in the basement and transfer the mini’s hard drive into it. They are essentially the same type of Mac so it would work fine, plus I needed to take the hard drive out of the mini to transfer our files since my automated backups hadn’t run since September 2010 😦

After a couple hours disassembling and reassembling my Macs, I got my web server back. And that’s why I keep so many Macs around πŸ™‚
